No one can deny that Maserati is an exotic vehicle. It has a long track record of delivering high-quality output, and this is something that customers can count on.

The Maserati  is an Italian  car But, Why Maserati Repairs are Expensive?

I did a lot of research and here is what I found.

Is Maserati ownership really that expensive?

I would say, yes, Maserati ownership is very expensive in terms of real dollars. May not be that far off compared to other car brands that produce similar cars (BMW, MBZ, Porsche).

Of course, the cost of ownership is not limited to repairs and also includes depreciation, maintenance, and consumables.

You’d think that having a bespoke model made to your exact specifications would make the individual models more reliable, but this isn’t always the case.

Models produced by more modern, mass-production manufacturing techniques are more reliable than those produced by bespoke engineering.

Maseratis are also not your typical everyday car. It’s unlikely that your Ghibli, Levante, or GranTurismo is the vehicle you use to do your weekly grocery shopping!

Luxury cars aren’t meant to be driven constantly, and if they are, they will wear down quickly and easily.

So there are quite a few reasons why Maserati might be considered unreliable.

It is also worth considering product recalls. Since 2015 there have been 28 Maserati recalls in the UK. These include:

  1. The front-wheel bearing can become noisy and if ignored can fail and cause loss of vehicle control.
  2. The right-hand door of the GranCabrio can open unexpectedly

Why Maserati repairs are expensive?

You are already aware of Maserati’s superior road performance.

These two factors bring down the manufacturer’s dependability and therefore, reduce their reliability score in comparison with other brands.

1.Maserati Parts are harder to get

One of the main reasons Maserati repairs are expensive because their parts are harder to source and replace due to the limited number of suppliers of rarer components.

Also, They take quite a Lon time to get Repaired due to Unavailability of quality spare parts.

I did a Survey In a FB Group of Maserati owners and 80% if them said they don’t get parts easily some even said they wait for  weeks and even months to get parts shipped.

Audrey Rodgers says

” Well everything of mine needs to be shipped and is impossible to find. A hell storm hit us a couple weeks ago going on vacation and my new windshield is $3940.00 and that’s mainly the windshield the labor is only $350″

Peter Biber Says

A car that is new quite expensive also carries quite expensive parts, so when something gets broken it is more expensive. Though there are dealers like scuderiaparts that make it quite affordable. I did not had a lot of problems yet, so mainly maintenance and hence the cost was even lower than with my AUDI”

Pasquale Fontana says

“Hi Div, I think often it’s due to the cost of parts…and sometimes getting to whatever is needed can mean shop hours so it all adds up”

2.Labour charges are high

Plus, the labour and parts are going to be pretty costly for two reasons.

The first is because it’s a high-performance vehicle, and those parts don’t come cheap, no matter what. The second reason is because it’s a foreign (Italian)vehicle, which means even something like a door handle is going to be expensive.

3.Apart from Repairs - Maintenance is High

In addition to repairs , maintenance does cost more than any standard car.

Maserati ownership is very expensive in terms of real dollars.

May not be that far off compared to other car brands that produce similar cars (BMW, MBZ, Porsche).

Of course, the cost of ownership is not limited to repairs and also includes depreciation, maintenance, and consumables.

4.They Depreciate Quickly

Every Maserati  (pre-Owned or NEW) will depreciate quickly, and it’s not uncommon to find one with anywhere between 60-80% off it’s original $100,000 price tag.

Luxury Exotic cars have steep depreciation because owners likely trade them in when they become outdated and used car buyers don’t want to pay a high premium on a dated model,”  iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly said in a prepared statement.

5.Maserati Resale value is Low

The resale value of luxury cars Like Maserati are affected by the high maintenance and ownership prices.

According to a study done by automotive research firm iSeeCars.com, the Maserati Quattroporte has the highest depreciation, dropping 72.2%, about $US95,393, between 2014 to 2019.

Luxury  and Exotic cars depreciate heavily in general. The cars that are especially expensive to maintain will often show up for sale like that, because someone was coming up on some major maintenance and didn’t want to deal with it.

Seeing as how some Maseratis are built right alongside Ferraris, they would definitely fit in that category.

Don’t ever consider one ‘on a budget,’ unless there’s a gun pointed at your head and your only other choice is to set your money on fire.

What are some of the common
Maserati problems?

It’s always good to know what problems you may encounter further down the line with your car, so here are some common problems you may experience with your Maserati:

  • Brakes
    • The brakes work, but if the fluid isn’t replaced regularly then they can get a bit wooden
  • Stone chips
  • Due to the fact that Maserati models are quite low to the ground,  this means it’s possible you will end up with stone chips under the wheel arches, especially if you’re going to be driving fast (which, chances are, you will in a Maserati).
  • So when checking for damage and wear, examine the wheel arches for stone chips, especially if you are thinking about buying a secondhand model
  • Issues with Sensors, Oil Pumps and Alternators
  • Issues with Air-conditioner
  • Electrical issues
  • Problems with the clutch
    • Some Quattroporte owners have only reached 12,000 miles before having to get their clutch replaced.

If you are looking at buying a second hand Maserati, then it’s worth asking about these issues before you buy.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, Maserati repairs are expensive due to many reasons.

Their exclusivity means that they do not have the mass-production set up that many of their competitors have, which goes some way in improving reliability.

This also means that they are expensive to repair and the parts can take a long time to source. But, this all comes with the package.

If you get a car that is that exclusive, then it will cost you a lot to repair and the bespoke design may mean you run into trouble later down the line.

Ultimately, though, if you buy a Maserati, it’s not because you are looking for a reliable car to do your weekly shop in.

You buy a Maserati because it looks good, it drives incredibly and it’s about as exclusive as you can get.

But, if you are looking for a reliable sports car, then the Maserati is slightly more reliable than Aston Martin and Ferrari.
