When you live in Paris, you learn how to live like a Parisian. 

There are some things you learn to do, and others you learn not to do. But all of these ‘rules’ apply not just to residents but to outsiders as well. 

So the next time you visit Paris, keep these 7 things in mind:

Avoid Taxis in paris If Possible -use Uber

I took Uber around 5 or 6 times in Paris last week, and it was a completely satisfactory experience – safe and somewhat speedy. 

There were lots of vehicles nearby since I was staying at a boutique hotel, so Uber was the most convenient option because there weren’t a lot of taxis ready to be summoned at any given moment. 

It was also possible to use cabs dependent on availability, which worked out great.

In certain circumstances, Uber is more affordable than taxis, and vice versa. 

However, due of Uber’s dynamic pricing, costs might fluctuate significantly within a single day. 

This is what we noticed once while taking a taxi between Place d’Italie and CDG Airport, where the fare may range between 33€ and 40€ depending on the time of day.

So, why is Paris  called City of Love

Paris is called the city of love because millions of people come here to spend some romantic time, find the perfect setting for that, then go home delighted and spread the word. Paris is a strong brand because it keeps delivering its love promise.

Keep your  Cigarette under control on the street.

Those who smoke should refrain from throwing their cigarettes on the streets. 

Recent legislation was enacted to prohibit individuals from dumping their cigarette butts on the streets. 

Toss them in the garbage can. 

If a police officer comes across you, you will be fined 68€ if you do not comply. Wow, that’s a very costly cigarette!

Be wary of souvenirs that  not Unique but have been mass-produced

 Some mass-produced commodities pose a risk to your health in addition to unfair competition and duplication.

In the case of low-cost masks, for example, the EU law governing colours and chemicals for wearable items has not been complied with, making skin contact potentially harmful.

Pickpockets happen in Paris-
take Precautions as a Tourist!

If you have something more valuable in your wallet than you are willing to lose, that is the first rule of thumb.

 Keep just the bare necessities with you: one credit/ATM card, one piece of identification, and no more than €40-50 in your wallet. 

A Lipstick/hairbrush/compact face powder can be quickly replaced, but something like a passport or a social security card/ any such ID cards are considerably more difficult to replace, and the loss of these items may be quite distressing. 

Make a duplicate of your passport, as well as the front and back of everything else in your wallet, just in case. 

In the event that anything occurs, you will have all of the necessary numbers and contact information to cancel your cards and get a replacement passport for yourself( Source)

Learn a few basic French phrases.

Parisians are not condescending. Not all of them, at any rate. 

The fact that you made the effort to utter even a few words in French is appreciated by them. 

When we go to other countries, such as the United States, 

we are expected to communicate in English. 

A simple ‘bonjour’ or ‘merci’ demonstrates that you are making an effort. 

And we are really grateful for it!

Be Prepared to walk a lot in paris

We had recently returned from a trip to Paris where we walked a lot, approximately 10 kilometres a day on average. 

You can go almost anyplace at a comfortable and relaxed speed. 

The Tuileries Gardens, where there are comfortable seats for lounging and relaxing around the enormous ponds, is near to the Louvre and Place de la Concorde, where I thought the Obelisk of Luxor to be intriguing, is a wonderful place to stroll about. 

I really enjoyed simply sitting and people-watching outside the Louvre, but make sure you do your study on it beforehand, since it makes the experience more intriguing. 

Visit Claude Monet’s Gardens at Vernon, which is just a short train trip away and takes less than an hour. It’s a beautiful spot to walk around in. Take a trip on the Hop on Hop Off bus system. 

Alternatively, if they are operating, take a Batobus journey. 

Both of the latter two pass by some significant locations, and you can at least get a glimpse of them. 

Just about every little outside café is ideal for people watching, and there is no lack of such establishments around the city of Paris. 

Walking along the Champs de Mars, sitting on a seat in the park, and people-watching are all options in the vicinity of the Eiffel Tower. 

Just remember to take it leisurely and enjoy the magnificent architecture and scenery everywhere you go, and I’m certain that you will have a wonderful day with your partner.

Note: ladies , get rid of your High heels for the walks. use comfy shoes or runners instead.

Stand to the right in Escalators in Paris

We Parisians are notoriously impatient, and many of us want to move swiftly. 

As a result, we have a rule that you must stand on your right while you are on escalators to enable others to ascend them quickly on your left, as described above.

When boarding an escalator, the unwritten rule is that you should tend to the left if you are more than one-abreast in height. 

Standing on the left implies that anybody who is confused about the concept of an escalator and believes that it is a set of conventional steps that can be walked up may go to the right to pass you if they are on the right.

When you stop to think about it, this serves a really valuable purpose. 

In every part of the globe where you travel, you will not be required to negotiate your way through a swarm of people in order to get to the peak of a mountain as soon as possible. 

Simply stay to your right if you’re coasting, and to your left if you’re speeding through the course in PAris.

Organizing your Paris visit

In Paris, what to do
If your time is restricted, establish a list of the major places you plan to see in advance. Online reservations for museums, exhibits, and theatrical events can save you considerable time in queue.

On the other side, if you’re more of a free spirit, you may like to wander till you get disoriented and be shocked by your surroundings.

There is a term for this in French: flâner. Because the majority of sites are centred in the city centre, it’s simple to stroll about and never get bored.

How to dress in Paris
Dress comfortably, since the best way to see Paris is on foot. In general, dark clothing will help you blend in with the Parisians. That being said, if you like dressing up, do not be afraid! After all, this is the fashion capital of the world.

What to avoid while in Paris

Petty crime
Keep an eye out for your personal stuff everywhere you go. Pickpocketing occurs on the metro and around popular tourist attractions.

You may be approached with a petition to sign or something to purchase, ostensibly to divert your attention away from a prospective pickpocket accomplice.

Pickpockets may also exploit a “lost” diamond or cash on the street as a diversion.

Overall security
Criminal activity occurs on occasion in isolated regions of Paris’s north-east suburbs, most often at night.

As a tourist, you should not be the primary target of violence motivated by your ethnicity or origins, much more so if you stick to major sites.

Such occurrences disproportionately affect residents of the city’s northern areas and suburbs.

Don’t Forget to Take Out Travel Insurance.This is a must, of you are travelling from Australia. As Aus and France do not have the reciprocal medical agreements  between them.

Check your country has any such agreements with France. You can get help with costs for medically necessary care when you visit any of those countries.

This includes:

• Emergency care
• Care for an illness or injury that can’t wait till you get home.

You still need to get your own travel health insurance.

Travel insurance will protect you against a variety of risks, including illness, accident, theft, and cancellations of plans. 

It provides full protection in the event that something goes wrong. 

Given that I’ve never had to use it in the past, I never travel without it.  I did my family’s travel insurance with Allianz, made sure that it was comprehensive, and also checked if they had adequate cancellation coverage as well.
