Why do you enjoy writing about cars so much? Well, I love cars and I love writing about automobiles because I have a significant personal interest in this subject. I love Luxe cars and Researching about them!

Before we Purchase our beloved BMW Mini Cooper  convertible,  we were a bit Puzzled about whether to buy a Convertible or not.

I did a Bit of research and asked few car dealers and here is what I found.

So, Is it a good idea for me to buy a convertible? It’s up to you, but let’s look at the practicalities and bust a few myths as we go on with this blog…

People buy convertibles for one of  FOUR main reasons:

1. They like the idea of open-top driving;

2. They love the attention they get driving an Open hood car

3. They love the fact that people think they are more successful;

4. the car they want is only available as a convertible, so they have to buy a convertible.

In any case, you need to figure out if convertible cars are right for you.

To do that, you need to understand some advantages and Disadvantages of owning a Convertible car.

Which Convertible suits your Requirement ?

Let’s start with the easiest thing, the different types of Convertible cars…

Sunroof/Moon roof

The first thing you should do is make sure you know what you’re getting, rather than relying on the fact that the car salesman’s definition of a “sunroof” is the same as your own.

It’s possible for sunroofs to be pop-up or spoiler. They can fold, be integrated, tilt, or have a panoramaic view.

Sunroofs, no matter what kind they are, will add weight to your car where you don’t want it, and poorly designed sunroofs will make your car less stable.

But… unless you are a professional race driver who does very precise test laps, you won’t even notice the difference.

Don’t let that scare you off, or let anyone else tell you otherwise.

With a sunroof, people who don’t want it will just not use it. There are a few buyers who do like their sunroofs and look for cars with them.

Sunroofs can really heat up the inside of the car, which is great in the winter, and they can also let some light in.

They do very little to improve the look of the outside of the car, compared to cars without.

T-Tops

Some cars have T-tops, which are different from other cars in some ways. When you open the windows on a normal car, it doesn’t feel very different from that.

Perhaps that’s why the T-top hasn’t been very popular.

There are some people who love them.

Targas aren’t as common as they used to be, because most people now want convertibles or tin-tops, not Targas.

Full Convertibles

As far as I can tell, the full convertible is where it’s at.

Nothing else can compare to the feeling of the wind in your hair as you speed down the road.

Then check out one of the big car rental companies and look for their “premium” cars, which usually have a convertible or two in them.

But it’s not for everyone. It might be fun to rent one for the weekend and see how you do. Convertibles are like swimming pools:

You don’t use them all the time, but there are times when you’re glad you own one.

There are two types of full convertible roofs: hard-tops and soft-tops.

Soft-Top

The soft top is a flexible, soft covering that covers the vehicle. Composite textiles have replaced PVC as the primary material for the tops, which were formerly made up of an upper layer of PVC and a lower layer of backing fabric.

With a rubber inner sandwiched in the midst of the three layers, the fabric is completely water-resistant. while the inside layer is generally made of polyester fabric.

Hard Top

This is a roof that can be taken off and put back on.

Typically built of steel, aluminium, or fiberglass-reinforced plastic, this foldable structure serves as an auxiliary roof for convertible cars.

A snow shovel can be attached to the car and kept when it is not in use, for example in the winter. It is possible to drop the hard top into the boot of a vehicle.

For many people, owning a convertible is a lifelong goal. However, doing your homework on the convertible’s make and model, as well as properly testing the automobile you’re considering purchasing, will help you make an informed decision.

Make sure to take care in your purchase and enjoy many years of sun-filled driving pleasure.

Are Convertibles Practical cars?

The purchase of a convertible car isn’t always made for a practical reason.Period!

If you just had to quickly put your roof up in the middle of a storm, or if you got stuck at a green light while doing so, everyone else on the road was mad at you.

Then their mistakes can seem more important.

It’s not a good idea to buy a convertible if you’re going to be a good driver.

But not all car purchases are made for practical reasons, either. Because if they were, Ferraris wouldn’t be there.

So, you need to know that a convertible isn’t going to be the same as a normal car.

Putting the folding roof in the trunk takes up space, and the safety of the car may be at risk.

There may also be more noise from the road, and there are more moving parts that could go wrong.

As long as everything else is the same, you’d rather roll a tin-top than an open-roof.

Keep in mind that many modern convertibles have pop-up roll-bars, so there’s more protection for you than just the windscreen mounts, so don’t forget about that.

Most of the time, the more expensive and newer cars have better-designed systems, but this isn’t always the case with every car.

A lot of convertibles require tools, swearing, and a lot of time to change.

Many of them are just a press of the button and a few seconds of wait time. If you want to use your convertible, you should pay more for a good system.

The more difficult it is to convert, the less likely you are to use your convertible.

Is Driving Convertible Noisy ?

Experts cautioned that the damage to hearing accumulates over time and may not be discovered until it is too late.

According to Dr. Rob Wilson of the Royal National Institute for the Deaf, ” “Hearing loss caused by excessive noise is often avoidable.

Over time, prolonged exposure to 88-90 dB of noise while driving a convertible may cause irreversible hearing damage.

So, how can we try to reduce the ear damage:

Drivers of convertibles may still enjoy driving while safeguarding their hearing by rolling up the windows or using simple ear protection, such as earplugs

Are all Convertibles Sports Cars?

No, not all convertibles are sports cars, but most of them are. A lot, but not all.

In this case, you might not have thought about and slowed down your speech to something that has two doors.

If this is the case, you might not be ready for a sports car.

That doesn’t mean we are ready to buy. If someone asks the next question, it could be hard.

The most important thing to think about is whether you should choose a convertible or a sports car.

When it comes to this, it’s like an old question that needs an answer and a proper discussion.

As a result, let’s write down some pros and cons of convertibles and sports cars so that we can come to a decision.

There are a lot of people who want to have the best possible driving experience.

Sports cars are the best choice. Sports cars tend to be more rigid than convertibles.

People know that sports cars have a full metal roof instead of a big hole behind the top.

An umbrella or soft top goes on this part of the windshield.

A race track is a good place to see how well a car can handle itself because of its rigidity.

Convertible cars Advantages over sports car.

Choosing a convertible instead of a sports car is the most important thing you can do.

With the top down and the wind in your hair, you can enjoy beautiful summer days.

This doesn’t have a fixed roof that makes it hard for you to see. Convertibles, on the other hand, give you a better chance to hear how the car engine sounds.

The majority of the time, convertibles aren’t as bad for performance as sports cars. It’s also true that convertibles are less rigid than sports cars, but that’s not the only thing.

A normal road may not make much of a difference to the way you see or feel. Most convertibles only add a few hundred pounds to sports cars, which isn’t very much.

The pros of owning a Convertible car

There’s something magical about convertibles, from the way a young child looks at the roof folding down to the thrill of driving with the sun on your skin and the wind on your hair.

Everything tastes better outside, and even jogging on a treadmill isn’t as bad as running on a beach or in a park, you could say!

In fact, most types of exercise are more fun when you do them outside.

Going for a drive in a convertible sports car is one of them.

Putting roofs on the early horseless carriages, back in the 1920s, could be seen as a way to protect ourselves from the real, physical experience of driving. Motorcyclists agree with this.

It has taken years of improvement and a lot of work to make our cars more soundproof.

This has made us even more isolated from the outside world.

They’re the only cars you can drive properly, then, and owning one is a unique kind of pleasure that other drivers don’t get. If, of course, the weather turns bad.

Looks like a sporty vehicle. Seeing a convertible on the road makes you want to stop and gaze. Since,  most automobiles come standard with roofs, seeing one without one piques one’s attention.

In addition, not all convertibles can fit five persons inside. Some barely have room for two people, which adds to their sporting appeal.

It’s the perfect combination for a sport-inspired vehicle when you add in the vibrant colour options.

Improved driving visibility. With a convertible, you won’t have to worry about any blind areas.

Everything around you can be seen clearly from your vantage point.

Locating those hard-to-see parking places at the grocery store is a breeze, as is dodging other vehicles. As a result, you have less excuses for a shoddy parking job.

There is a distinct sense of vacation when the top is lowered.

Convertibles are the best mode of transportation. Everything about summer is better when it’s accompanied with a good melody and some breeze in your hair.

The maximum headroom is guaranteed. Tall drivers, rejoice! You’ll no longer have to worry about anything banging into the tops of your heads.

Additionally, the wind is so strong that you may feel it from any direction at any time.

Taller drivers may have difficulty in regular cars, but that’s never an issue with a convertible.

The best

First, when it’s sunny, everything makes sense.

The space in your head is as big as your happiness as you zip around and feel like a movie star. It’s great to be in your car and outside at the same time.

A rag-top also gives you the sense of speed that comes from the “rush Of wind gush” As if you were riding your bicycle or skateboard down a steep hill at high speed.

You can’t compare the convertible version of a car with its roofed counterpart because it’s fun for kids and smiles, not just for adults.

Because of course a coupe or sedan is going to be better, at least in terms of how they move.

Cons of owning a Convertible

You have to be very careful about what kind of music you like, because when you drive by a zebra crossing in your drop top, everyone can hear that you like Mylie Cyrus

Jokes apart, Convertibles are not cheap!!. A roof over your head will cost you more money if you do not want to live in a tented structure.

Beware if you have long hair… one long drive with top-down can ruin the texture of your hair. Make sure you have a scarf and wind deflector Installed.

Expect to pay somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000 more on top of your original purchase price. But, as they say, you get what you pay for.

Breaking in a soft top Convertible is easier , so because of this, it is critical that you remove all valuables from your automobile that are visible to the public.

This is something you should be doing anyway with any car, but with a convertible, it becomes even more critical.

Expect to have a loud driving environment. Next time you’re travelling down the interstate, try rolling down all of your windows to see whether you like it. Probably not.

If you’re cool with being noisy while driving a convertible, then it won’t be a problem for you.

Driving around the local streets will, of course, be pleasant, but if interstate driving is more your style, become acquainted with a loud cabin before purchasing.

The interiors of convertible shows signs of wear and tear sooner than a regular car. Consider this: while the top is down and the sun is shining, the interior of your vehicle is going to take a battering.

When you have leather seats, the situation becomes even worse. It is not only the seats that are at peril, though; the dashboards, steering wheels, and even seatbelts are all at risk.

Do you regret buying a convertible car?

Look for a convertible that best suits your demands and budget.

You don’t have to go far to get a convertible automobile, since nearly every car manufacturer makes one. Choosing a convertible is the challenge.

There are many different convertibles to select from, whether you want something luxurious or one that uses less petrol.

What’s my advice? We purchased a brand new Mini Cooper Convertible few Years ago. Now , we are thinking Instead of purchasing a new convertible, look for a used one.

Since the value decreases as soon as you drive away from the dealership, why not keep it?

Convertible ownership is a fascinating experience, but there are key benefits and downsides to keep in mind as well.

Some of these may be important, while others may not. Making a decision should be a lot simpler if you have all the information you need.

FAQs About Convertibles

In a convertible, how fast do you have to go in order to avoid getting wet?

The best speed for staying dry varies according on the amount of rain, but with a light drizzle 30-40 kmph is sufficient.

It varies depending on the form of the automobile and the amount of rain that falls.

Previously, I was able to drive my  Mini Cooper Convertible on the highway at 75-90 KMs  per hour in a light downpour and avoid getting wet.

Is it true that convertible vehicles are slower?

Convertibles require additional bracing to strengthen their bodies since the roof is such an important aspect of the vehicle’s construction.

Consequently, they are often hundreds of pounds heavier and a few hundred milliseconds slower than their hardtop counterparts.

Is it possible to operate a convertible while driving with the top down?

When the automobile is moving or when there is a high wind, do not attempt to put the top up or down on the convertible top.

When the top is partially open or closed, it is not safe to drive the automobile.

Before you take your car through the car wash, put the top up and secure all of the windows and the trunk.

Is it legal to drive on the highway with the roof down?

It is not recommended to drive with the roof down on a highway as it may result in severe consequences.

If you have ever driven on a motorway with the windows down, you will understand to some level what it is like to drive with the roof down; it is anything but pleasurable.
