Pros and cons of owning a Mercedes Benz
I purchased a Mercedes Benz a few Year ago. My husband and I did a lot of research on the car before we purchased one. This article is about the Pros and Cons of owning a Mercedes Benz.
Mercedes, by reputation, makes mostly very satisfying, high status, comfortable, good performing cars. They also make, by reputation.
A Mercedes-Benz is a luxury car and for the most part a car nobody needs ( just like any other luxury car), but many people want to own a Benz.
The reasons why they want it are, luxury, performance, safety, state-of-the-art technology, reliability, stylish design and heavy on the image.People don’t buy Benz, because of its price point, nor because of its cost of ownership.
This means, most Mercedes-Benz buyers got some financial means to not worry about a $150 oil change or a $1,400 service bill every 6 months, or every year.
That doesn’t mean, they won’t try to get a great deal, but they could afford the car, even at MSRP.
In this blog, I describe the pros and cons of Owning Mercedes Benz from my own experiences.
Pros of Owning a Benz...
Iconic Car Brand:
One of the most prestigious car brands ever. Iconic, a huge statement, gorgeous design, brilliant engineering. Fast, smooth…I can go on and on about Mercedes Benz, from the A-Class to the thunderous AMG badge, Mercedes Benz has it all.
The worlds safest and highest safety rating. Unparalleled performance, diesel options, there’s a Benz for everyone from Ultra-High-Performance Sports Car’s to Hatchbacks to giant swooping sedans.
Safety.
They have equipment that was never found in a car of the same class before like the cruise control. Mercedes pioneered many of the safety features we now see as standard equipment.
They make their own gearboxes. Zf gearboxes found in Audi BMW etc are not in Mercedes cars as they make their own.
Some are brilliant like the 7g Tronic plus found in an s350 CDI. Some variations have 9 gears!!!!
The w221 s600 was the first car to feature massage seats. (Proper massage seats not a lite version found in the e55 and etc)
The w221 s600 was the first car to have night vision.
They are popular cars so parts are many.
Features :
Most importantly the features! Mercedes is not only one of the safest vehicles on the market, the features are AMAZING.
Older models that are 7–10 years old have standard features like push start, heated seats, a backup camera that even newer model non-Mercedes brand vehicles don’t have.
Smooth ride. I have driven multiple Mercedes cars and SUV’s and they all drive super smooth.
The seats are super comfortable and the motor purrs like a kitty.
A truly luxurious ride and experience each time you get behind the wheel.
Mercedes Dealership experience.
This one is mint. We had an Awesome Experience when purchasing our brand new Benz SUV form our local Dealership in Melbourne. It’s one of the best parts of the car shopping journey. Everything went smooth and went really well.
We bought our GLC 200 (SUV) from the Berwick dealership and was fantastic from the get-go!
they know the cars well and deserves recognition.
Great work boys! We love our Mercedes …
The dealerships have a country club vibe and the staff treat you like royalty.
The service floor for customers is spacious and has amenities like free drinks, food, TVs, luxury sofas for comfort and a store to purchase Mercedes merchandise.
High Quality Build:
New Mercedes will reward you with probably one of the smoother rides of most cars you can buy.
Incredible brakes from otherwise ordinary cars, above-average mile per gallon and incredible build quality. They’re no Honda or Toyota when it comes to reliability but they’ll do you far better than say a VW or Audi.
Most Mercedes are rear or all-wheel drive, so despite electric power steering, they’re pretty fun to drive.
Cons of Owning a Mercedes Benz
The #1 complaint I have with Mercedes Benz would definitely be maintenance.
However, my point is if you can afford a Bez you should be able to afford the maintenance?
But, I still Go ahead and mark few Cons of owning a Mercedes Benz.
Different size tyres in the front vs. the back, extra big headache and can be very expensive
No spare Tyres:
Almost every new Mercedes Benz has no spare or has an expandable spare, so they come with run-flats…run-flats are beyond a headache, almost always not repairable if you get a simple flat, run-flat damage, way too expensive to replace this kind of tire.
Expandable spares are confusing:
Especially if you don’t know that you are supposed to fill it with air BEFORE you replace your flat tire with it, It is extra inconvenient. (yes I’m aware they come with air compressor…still inconvenient) .
For some reason, the none AMG models rims seem to crack/bend way too easy.
The cost of Complete ownership:
Mercedes vehicles are quite expensive to maintain. Many of the parts are only available at Mercedes dealerships and usually have to be ordered.
Insurance and Petrol cost also adds up with the maintenance costs.
The depreciation value. Mercedes cars REALLY depreciate so I recommended not purchasing a brand new one because they decrease in value by around 50% in a couple of years except the S class G Wagons.
The key fobs are quite costly as well. Depending on your model and year, an extra/replacement key can cost $350-$700+
One of the biggest cons is devaluation and resale. Expensive cars which require expensive maintenance have a far smaller market, this means lesser demand and price suffers from it.
There is no going back! Once you drive/own a Mercedes you will not be able to drive another non-luxury vehicle and probably be a Mercedes owner for life. I know it’s funny, But I don’t think My Partner and I can Drive any other non-Luxury cars now… 🙂
Why do I Love Mercedes Benz?
WHY I LOVE THE CAR…
In My Opinion, With Benz you are driving one of the most exclusive cars out there; an icon You turn heads, especially if the car is in excellent shape, regardless of the year or model.
The brand gives you some status and gives the message that you are exclusive and refined.
Extremely safe; there’s a lot of engineering behind that brand
Very nice ride and performance on the road.
Image it Creates: When I bought mine, it was the first one with those fancy LED headlamps. I had heads turning right out of the dealership on the evening I bought it.
Being a Mercedes Benz, she still looks brand new as far as the paint job goes. No fading or scratches whatsoever. Yes, I keep it garaged.
Contrary to popular belief, GENUINE parts are the cheapest in the market, only next to Toyota. Do not go to a dealership for any work. Find a good local garage that deals in German automobiles. Buy parts from a reseller as well.
I love the braking system. This car stops on a dime. Very safe and stable on the road. I have 19″ 7 spoke wheels.
The sound system is awesome. I don’t know how many speakers are in there, but they are really good stuff.
Gas mileage is great for a big V6 and all that bodyweight. I get about 8 l/100 KMs and even 7 sometimes on the freeway. In the city, it’s about 11.
Mercedes uses Premium Petrol, and it’s not hard if you don’t wait until you reach Reserve. There are many Gas stations around that offer a few cents discounts.
Do I Recommend Mercedes Benz as a used car?
Yes ! Indeed I would recommend it if you’re financially able to afford it.
Mercedes Benz is a High-end German luxury car that has the highest and latest safety and technological equipment.
Their build quality is far superior to their American and most Japanese counterparts and the ride quality will be more engaging and way above other brands.
Mercedes Benz in particular has a pretty strong focus on luxury and style.
Current Mercs have the best looking interiors by far and the designs are elegant, sober yet attractive.
They are comfortable, they are engineered to last for a very long time with proper maintenance and they are prestigious.
The cons are the cost. Not only the initial purchase price but also the ongoing cost of taking it to the Mercedes Dealer whenever something needs to be looked at.
A lot depends on whether you intend to drive it until the wheels fall off.
If you are going to do that then you can find a non-dealer mechanic who will fulfil your needs for maintenance for much more reasonable prices than Mercedes dealers.
If you are not going to drive it until it dies you should not take it anywhere but the expensive dealer shop because the buyer will want to see the maintenance receipts.
