The Difference Between Exotic and Luxury Cars

Exotic cars

What qualifies an automobile as “Exotic” is a phrase that is sometimes debated. Is it a supercar with more than 600 hp? Is it a vehicle in a specific price range? Is this a one-of-a-kind vehicle?

The term “Exotic Car” is applied when its owner’s fan base claims it is all of these and none of these.

While they don’t quite meet the criteria of being considered a Supercar in terms of price, performance, and availability.

Exotic Automobiles are nonetheless uncommon and represent a number of cars that predate many of the Supercars & Hypercars we see in the modern day.

Anything that goes above and beyond the norm, as well as being equipped with several high-end amenities, might be considered opulent.

Consider luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Consider it a luxury automobile that you’d want to have for added convenience.

The following are some characteristics of a luxury automobile that set it apart from more exotic vehicles.

Features that are exclusive to luxury cars

Exclusive features enabled by smart technology are common among luxury manufacturers like Audi and Mercedes, but they are not present in other automobiles.

Instead of standard AWD, Audi provides its well-known Quattro system. It’s a brand-specific AWD version designed to provide a unique driving experience.

Luxury car brands ranked by prestige suitable for Road trips

Excotic Cars

Ferrari – Ferrari is #1 here without doubt because of its name recognition, exclusivity, and universal reputation for building breathtaking machines.

Lamborghini – Although I am not the biggest Lambo fan myself, I have to admit that they have a pretty high status, a very well know, make bonkers looking cars and their polarization is also a benefit for them.

Bugatti – Still incredible cars, but the image has faded after a decade of the Veyron.

McLaren – Upcoming Star on this front after return to the street car world, proven worthy to be here with the P1, but still not on the level of the Italians and Bugatti

Koeniggsegg/ Pagani – Both make beautiful and stunning cars, but both have the problem of being too unapproachable, too rare, too expensive, too unknown. All that makes them less recognizable and less prestigious

Noble/ Hennessey/ BAC/Mesarati other niche and small companies – at the end of the list mainly because of the lack of recognition not because of bad cars. Impressive only to insiders.

Porsche :

Porsche is one of the big automotive brands of all time. Since 1948, the German manufacturer has made world-leading automobiles, none longer and more revered than the famous 911.

Such supercars as 918 Spyder and GT3 RS continue their rich heritage of technological innovation, and luxury vehicles such as the Panamera and Cayenne please those who want refinement with quickness.

  1. This company is still in the forefront of performance and technology. And then there are the racing vehicles that offer Porsche a trophy office that is the envy of their colleagues for many years.
  2. Mercedes-Benz is the most popular luxury car brand. Mercedes-Benz is described by fans as Reliable, Well made, Good quality, Expensive and Luxurious.
  3. Mercedes-Benz – IMO they deserve a higher place, with their new impressive lineup such as the S Coupe and the AMG GT and their high reputation of making high quality and premium vehicles. Find out : Which is the most Luxurious Merc SUV
  4. Aston Martin – I would put Aston Martin here as it is less exclusive as the exotics and many of their competitors in the sporty luxurious GT section sit here. At the top of the list because of James Bond and the recognition and british gentleman image they have.
  5. Jaguar

BMW & Lexus Audi – Audi is in the bottom, because their image tends more to “makes well made but ultimately boring and similar looking cars”

What Makes a Luxury Car a Luxury Car?

The following are the characteristics by which I define a luxury automobile:

  • A quality-driven brand (such as Mercedes, BMW , Audi, Lexus, and so on) must contain characteristics that are only found in high-end automobiles.
  • Powerful and smooth (with a typical output of 350+ horsepower).
  • Is expensive when new (often more than $75,000), and it must be spacious enough to be considered full-size with high-quality leather seats.

Taking into consideration the price, it is vital to realise that there are many degrees of luxury:

The BMW 3 series and 5 series, Mercedes C , E & S  Class , Audi A4 and A6 are examples of typical luxury vehicles priced between $50,000 and $75,000.

The flagship luxury vehicles priced between $75,000 and $100,000 are examples of flagship luxury vehicles priced between $75,000 and $100,000.

Audi A8, Mercedes S class ultra-flagship luxury (often over $150k), Aplina B7, Mercedes S63 and S65 AMG, Audi S8, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and other luxury brands (typically over $150k).

Each degree of luxury provides you with an unmistakably distinct level of excellence. However, the distinction between “ordinary luxury” and “flagship luxury” vehicles is more noticeable than the distinction between “flagship luxury” and “ultra-flagship luxury” vehicles.

Flagship luxury automobiles are just as wonderful as ultra-luxury cars, but ultra-luxury cars have more of everything and a few more unique features that distinguish them from the competition.

Selecting the ultra-flagship luxury is the best option if you want to move quickly in a luxury automobile.

Those vehicles almost always feature 8-cylinder or even 12-cylinder engines and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds.

A top luxury vehicle such as a regular S Class Mercedes will go from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. There aren’t four of them.

Even a regular luxury automobile isn’t something I’d classify as luxurious in my opinion.

A luxury vehicle would have to be at the very least the company’s flagship model before I would consider it to be such.

Common luxury automobiles are something you see on the road on a daily basis (or at least where I live).

They are something that is readily available, and the majority of the population can typically purchase them if they stretch their budgets.

On the other hand, flagship luxury automobiles and beyond are something you don’t see every day, and as a result, they grow more rare and valuable.

They are also made of higher-quality materials than even the most basic luxury automobiles.

In general, this is what I perceive to be the breakdown for premium automobiles in general.

Flagship Luxury Cars:

Typically, the best, biggest, and most significant model in a manufacturer’s fleet is designated as the flagship model, and it is intended to demonstrate the absolute best that the firm has to offer.

They are intended to be the apex of the range, as well as a moving advertising for all of the other models in the lineup.

They aren’t usually the largest or most costly, since they might just be the most expensive at any one point in time. They are often also high-performance versions, which is a nice bonus.

So, what makes a Luxury car a Luxury car ?.

You’re not alone if you’ve ever wondered what makes a luxury car a luxury car.

While many people think it’s just the high prices of these vehicles, there’s a lot more to it.

Luxury vehicles typically provide a plethora of amenities that are simply not available in most standard vehicles, and from the way it is built to the number of fancy features inside, these are truly cars that stand out from the crowd.

Continue reading if you want to know what makes a luxury car truly luxurious.

The Characteristic That Makes a Difference

Consider this: a typical luxury car will have the same parts and components as a standard car, but the quality of those parts and components will be noticeably higher.

Let’s look at car interiors as an example. All car manufacturers make their vehicles’ interiors comfortable to drive and ride in, but luxury car manufacturers go above and beyond.

Every inch of a luxury vehicle’s interior is designed to provide the ultimate in comfort for both drivers and passengers.

Drivers and passengers will be pampered to the point of being shielded from road noise and other imperfections.

The suspension system is another example. Suspension systems are designed to keep the wheels firmly planted on the ground in the majority of driving situations.

A luxury car, on the other hand, has upgraded suspension systems that appear to eliminate all bumps and ruts in the road, resulting in a super smooth riding and driving experience.

In fact, with a luxury vehicle, you may not even notice the ruts and bumps.

Some luxury vehicles even have adjustable suspensions on air springs that automatically compensate for road conditions.

Features Make a Significant Difference

When it comes to luxury cars, one of the most noticeable differences between them and standard vehicles is the number and quality of features they provide.

For example, while a standard car may have super comfortable cloth seats, a luxury vehicle may have real leather seats that are heated and have different heat settings.

While standard vehicles have radios, CD players, and sound systems, luxury vehicles have the industry’s best sound systems, such as Bang and Olufsen.

What is a brutal truth about owning a luxurious car?

Based on my experience owning luxury vehicles, I can tell you that the harsh realities may be classified as good, negative, or neutral truth-worthy facts.

Let’s start with the worst case scenario:

Not so good things about owning a Luxury car

Getting keyed – yep, this does happen. People who are envious because your automobile is more expensive than their home.

This has occurred to me many times when I’ve parked at different businesses, etc.

Now, I bring my Camry to areas where I know my fancy vehicles will be keyed.

I don’t care if the repairs were free; it’s still aggravating to have keyed, which is why I now have a Camry (and a BMW ) as two daily drivers.

I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that I can use when I go up to the snow.

Accidents – Well, My friend is a resident of San Francisco. The city is large. A large number of individuals. What does this imply?

She does receive a lot of attention (not quite as much as her sports vehicles), but I still get a lot of attention, and many people tailgate them and almost cause an accident, as they have in the past. This does occur.

One advantage is that people live in San Francisco, where there are normally more high-end vehicles, so people are more “accustomed to it.”

When it comes to dependability, my Honda and Lexus outperform any premium automobile I’ve ever owned.

Also, you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong if you take a Camry on a road trip, but you do feel a little apprehensive if you take a Mercedes S63 AMG on a road trip because of its prestige and… what if something goes wrong with it, even if it is new???

Neutral things about owning a Luxury car

Smiles per gallon – certainly, luxury automobiles are nice to ride in and even drive, and I grin a lot when I do.

However, the more miles I put on the vehicle, the more it depreciates, and I am not a big spender. I despise depreciation, but I know they’re more fun to drive, so that makes up for it.

You are still just a vehicle – even if you drive a Rolls-Royce, you are still driving a car like any other.

You won’t receive as much attention as you would in a Lamborghini, and driving a fancy automobile does not provide you “beyond the law” privileges as some people believe. I’ve been pulled over many times for minor infractions.

Good things about owning a Luxury car

Respect – this is my personal fave. Many people will treat you better and be more patient with you on the road.

Even if I drive a little slower than other traffic,

I am never cut off or tailgated. People normally move over when I drive faster, but I am always safe.

When I ask to change lanes, most people are courteous, and just around 1% make my life more difficult.

Status – Many people want to connect with me, but I only let the appropriate individuals communicate to me.

I can drive up to a Beverly Hills house/Toorak House in Australia  and people will admire me because they believe I live in/near Beverly Hills. You are instantly seen as highly successful.

Driving – many people believe that a simple automobile can perform the same things as a luxury car, or that it drives just as well as one and is more practical.

Sorry, but the fact is that my premium vehicles have a much quieter and smoother ride, and can easily accelerate from 0–60 in under 5 seconds, whilst your basic cars can do it in under 9 seconds if you push them.

Furthermore, in many premium vehicles, such as mine, 100 MPH feels like 80 MPH. 100 MPH would feel like 100 in my Camry.

Perhaps 110 or 120. When you purchase a premium automobile, you typically get what you paid for.

However, I am just referring to the driving experience and not other elements.

Overall, these are the harsh realities of owning a premium automobile.

There are more, but I’ll limit my list to the ones I consider to be the most crucial.

Overall, I adore having luxury automobiles, and I often swap them and never keep the same car for an extended amount of time.

The positive harsh realities much outnumber the negative.

How do you justify owning a luxury car?

Justification based on economics/finance

Cars are something you purchase every 5 years, some people replace them every 3 years, others every 10 years, and many people retain them as long as the vehicle works.

Given the extended “payback” time, it is significantly more reasonable to spend a little more.

Luxury cars dispose of its worth by making you feel better and providing a better ownership experience in return for a large sum of money.

Automobiles are likewise not throwaway items. It’s not like a toilet paper or an expensive bottle of wine.

The other will get coated with faeces and the other will turn into pee.

At the end, you may still sell them for their residual worth after depreciation.

Luxury automobiles, on the other hand, degrade quicker since there is very little aftermarket for used luxury cars because most people who purchase them buy new.

Your financial status should enable you to cover the expense of ownership.

That’s correct, ownership, the maintenance bill, the gasoline stops, not the purchase price.

And, since automobiles are not your main necessities, you should prioritise your food, housing, entertainment, education, and clothes budgets before adding a car to your spending ledger.

Social Persuasion

Your decision reveals a lot about your personality.

Are you willing to be judged? Luxury automobiles are often built as status symbols, and as a result, they have a dominating presence in traffic, whether by size, appearance, or emblem.

There is no way to avoid the envy, questionable adoration, or passive-aggressive praises that will be heaped upon you.

This will come not just from acquaintances and strangers, but even from your family.

Be honest about why you want to buy a luxury automobile as your next purchase: are you attempting to flaunt your newfound wealth?

Do you want to make an impression on someone? Self-actualisation?

It is still extremely human, no matter how shallow you believe it is.

It will only become worse if you aren’t honest about it, since it will depreciate the worth of your luxury vehicle.

Considerations for the Environment

Do you live in a risky, crime-infested area? Is the environment around your establishments secure?

Do you have a safe parking spot? Garage?

Driveways? Because of situations like these, owning a premium automobile entails added stress and worry. Have you ever considered this?

If you have a small green bent, you now have an option: electric luxury automobiles or hybrid vehicles.

But what if you don’t possess one at all? What about public transportation?

You still have to park them someplace, and not all parking lots are safe or frequented by conscientious individuals.

What if you saved all the inconvenience of having a vehicle and used the money to help with forest re-planting? What about sea-cleaning activities? What about recycling?

Considerations for the Individual

You’ll be spending your own money here, so why should you be concerned about others?

But don’t you think investing the money or saving a little more may get you a far better automobile in the future?

What if you’re stuck between FOMO and daydreaming, both of which are the banes of every mid-life crisis?

You may have considered purchasing an S-class years ago, while if you had spent the money, you might have purchased a Chiron, for example.

However, if you persist, you may never be able to purchase a luxury automobile, which may be for the best, but who knows?

PAY-PER-MILE Insurance

With Metromile, your rate is based on your actual driving habits. The customers save 47% on average compared to what they were paying their previous auto insurer.

Why should you NOT buy an expensive car if you can afford it?

This is because cars, especially expensive ones, depreciate very quickly, so you’re basically throwing away a bunch of money just for a little bit of fun.

Spend $1m on a car – if you don’t manage to crash it or get it stolen, in a couple of years it’s worth $500k,

Or you could spend $100k on a very nice car, and put the other $900k into an investment; if you’re lucky in five years it might be worth $1,500,000.

To a certain extent, this same comparison applies even if “expensive” to you is $25k.

Better to buy something cheaper, since the value is just going to evaporate anyway.

Personally I’d rather buy a medium-priced “interesting” car, than an expensive car.

I’d rather have two cool classics than one new factory model.

Here are some modestly priced vehicles that are frequently as excellent as or better than more costly alternatives.

1.Pay for genuine quality rather than picture. Do your homework.

2. A automobile is a deteriorating asset unless you acquire and sell collector cars for a job. Just because you have money doesn’t mean you should waste it.

3. There are some absolutely awful automobiles that are expensive to buy new. And its worth has plummeted like a rock. Unreliability. Repairs and upkeep are costly.

4. Surprisingly, a lot of the greatest engineering is found in cheaper or mid-priced automobiles.

Why? When you want to sell a big number of vehicles in a competitive market to customers who have little tolerance for failure – it may be their only vehicle – and are continually seeking for value, you bring your considerable resources to bear.
